The AWRDPR program will help you recover lost or forgotten passwords to open MS Word documents. The current version supports documents of the MS Word 6/7/8/9 versions; it supports three types of algorithms: brute force, masked brute force and dictionary based. So, if you need the forgotten password to MS Word, you may use AWRDPR, which will recover the password and save it to the disk. The password recovery algorithm for the 6/7 version MS Word document is different from the algorithm used to recovery passwords to MS Word 8/9 documents. For MS Word 6/7 you need much less time, however, result is not certain. Your success depends on the document structure and size. On the contrary, MS Word 8/9 documents require more time to recover the password but the result is almost always positive. The process duration directly depends on password length and symbols used in it. Three options are available depending on what shape the password takes, or what you can remember of it. If you know nothing then you'll have to go for the 'Brute Force' option which simply tries every combination - a slow, but often inevitable process. If you can remember parts of the password then the masking option lets you add wildcards to the Brute Force method essentially lowering the number of possible combinations and speeding up the process greatly. The final method uses an existing dictionary or .txt file selected by the user which will hopefully contain the right password. The current version of the program is able to detect if the modification password was applied in a moment and, if it was, to recover it. As a result of it, You will see a window, where the password protecting the document from modifications is shown. Along with that, the password is copied to the clipboard. Unfortunately, at the moment this function was implemented for MS Word 8/9 documents only.
